Engagement metrics help you understand how visitors interact with your site beyond just loading it. These signals reveal how effectively your content captures attention, encourages interaction, and keep users involved.
What is scroll depth?
Scroll depth measures how far down the page users scroll on average. It reflects how much of your content they actually see and engage with - beyond what’s immediately visible when the page loads.
How is it measured?
We track the maximum scroll position a user reaches during a pageview, typically expressed as a percentage of total page height. For example, if a user scrolls halfway down, that’s 50% scroll depth. We calculate average scroll depth by aggregating these percentages across all pageviews, showing how deeply users explore your pages.
Why it matters?
A higher scroll depth suggests your content is engaging, your layout encourages exploration, or your above-the-fold elements are strong enough to motivate users to keep going. Low scroll depth may indicate weak content hierarchy, cluttered design, or even performance problems - like delayed content rendering that discourages scrolling. Improving scroll depth helps you increase content visibility and ensure that key messages or CTAs placed lower on the page are actually seen.
