Engagement metrics help you understand how visitors interact with your site beyond just loading it. These signals reveal how effectively your content captures attention, encourages interaction, and keep users involved.
What is click through rate?
Click through rate (CTR) represents the percentage of pageviews where users take meaningful action by clicking on something - like a button, link, image, or interactive element. It reflects how often visitors are actively engaging with your content rather than passively browsing.
How is it measured?
CTR is calculated by dividing the number of pageviews that include at least one meaningful click by the total number of pageviews, then multiplying by 100 to get a percentage. For example, if 500 out of 2,000 pageviews include a meaningful click, your CTR would be 25%. Not all clicks are counted - only those considered valuable to user experience, such as navigation clicks, product views, or interactions with key UI elements.
Why it matters?
A high CTR shows that users are finding your content relevant and taking action. It’s a strong signal of engagement and intent - whether that’s exploring products, reading more articles, or progressing toward conversion. Monitoring CTR helps you understand what drives user interest, spot underperforming pages, and optimize layouts or CTAs to increase interaction. It’s also a useful companion to session data, revealing quality of engagement, not just quantity.
