Engagement metrics help you understand how visitors interact with your site beyond just loading it. These signals reveal how effectively your content captures attention, encourages interaction, and keeps users involved.

What are void clicks?

Void clicks are clicks on non-interactive elements that don’t trigger any action or visible response. Unlike dead clicks, these do not occur on links or buttons, but on elements such as text, images, icons, or layout components that users mistakenly perceive as interactive.

They often reflect confusion, where users expect something to happen - but the element was never meant to be clickable.

How is it measured?

We monitor all click events and identify those that occur on non-interactive elements - where there is no associated action, navigation, or visual feedback.

These events are averaged per pageview to show how often users attempt to interact with elements that aren’t designed for interaction. Common causes include misleading design patterns, unclear affordances, or visual elements that resemble clickable UI components.

Why it matters

A high number of void clicks typically indicates UX issues related to clarity and affordance - where users cannot easily distinguish what is interactive and what is not.

This can point to misleading layouts, overuse of clickable-looking visuals, or poor hierarchy in design. Reducing void clicks helps create clearer interfaces where users intuitively understand how to interact with the page.

Average daily void clicks

Represents the average number of void click events per pageview.

A high average suggests that users frequently attempt to interact with elements that are not intended to be clickable, signaling confusion in the interface or misleading visual cues.

This data is collected through real-time interaction tracking and helps uncover persistent UX clarity issues.

Total void clicks

Represents the total number of void click events during the selected period.

Tracking this total helps identify specific pages or UI components where users consistently misinterpret elements as interactive. It is useful for prioritizing design improvements that enhance clarity and reduce user confusion.

This data is collected through session monitoring and provides a broader view of how often users engage with non-interactive elements.
