Milestones are the key steps in your visitors' journey through your website.
They help you understand which pages and actions visitors interact with before converting, how many shoppers reach each step, and which parts of the journey may be worth investigating.
Uxify automatically detects important milestones from real visitor behavior and can also suggest additional milestones that may be relevant to your funnel.
You can review these milestones in Funnels → Milestones, add suggested ones, or manually create your own.
Milestones show you the important steps in your funnel. To see how visitors actually move between these steps, check out our Journeys article.
Milestone types
Uxify organizes milestones according to their role in the customer journey.
Your Milestones page can contain four different types:
Milestone
A Milestone is a regular step in the visitor journey.
These are typically pages or actions that help describe how visitors interact with your website, such as:
Homepage
Collection pages
Product pages
Blog pages
Search
Promotional pages
For example, a collection page can be a regular milestone showing that a visitor has reached an important point in their journey.
Micro conversion
A Micro conversion represents an action that shows meaningful user intent, but isn't the final conversion.
These actions can help you understand whether visitors are becoming more engaged with your website.
Examples include:
Viewing a product
Signing up
Starting an important interaction
Engaging with a key feature
Micro conversions are especially useful for identifying intent before a visitor gets close to purchasing.
Pre-conversion
A Pre-conversion is a step that happens immediately before the final conversion.
For ecommerce websites, a common example is Add to cart.
For example:
Product → Add to cart → Checkout
By marking Add to cart as a pre-conversion milestone, you can easily distinguish it from earlier browsing activity and the final conversion.
Conversion
A Conversion represents the final action you're trying to achieve.
For ecommerce websites, this will typically be Checkout or the action representing a completed purchase.
Conversion milestones are used as the destination when analyzing your visitor journeys.
For example:
Product → Add to cart → Checkout
Here, Checkout is the conversion.
Suggested by Uxify AI
Uxify continuously analyzes your visitor behavior to identify pages and actions that may be important parts of your customer journey.
When Uxify finds a page or interaction that appears frequently in journeys leading to conversion, it can suggest it as a new milestone.
These suggestions appear in the Suggested by Uxify AI section.
Suggestions can uncover steps you may not have thought of when setting up your funnel.
For example, Uxify might identify:
A promotional page
An offers page
A gift options page
A product-related interaction
A specific button or action
Each suggestion shows the number of shoppers associated with that step, helping you decide whether it's worth adding to your funnel.
Adding an AI-suggested milestone
To add a suggested milestone:
Find the suggestion under Suggested by Uxify AI.
Review the milestone name and shopper count.
Click Add.
The milestone will be added to your active milestones and will become part of your funnel analysis.
You can simply ignore suggestions that aren't relevant to your business.
Adding a milestone manually
While Uxify can automatically detect and suggest important milestones, you can also create one manually whenever you want to track a specific page or interaction.
To add a milestone:
Click + Add milestone.
Enter a name.
Select the Type.
Choose when the milestone should activate.
Optionally use Advanced settings for more precise control.
Click Add funnel point.
1. Add milestone
From the Milestones tab, click + Add milestone.
This opens the New milestone window.
2. Enter a name
Give your milestone a clear and descriptive name.
For example:
ProductAdd to cartViewed size guideClicked promotional bannerCheckout
A good name makes it easier to understand the milestone later when you're analyzing your funnel and journeys.
3. Select a type
Choose the type that best represents the milestone's role in the customer journey:
Regular
Conversion
Preconversion
Microconversion
For example:
A Product page → Regular or Micro conversion
Add to cart → Preconversion
Checkout → Conversion
The type helps Uxify organize the milestone and makes it easier to understand its role in the overall funnel.
4. Choose when to activate
The default setup lets you specify the action that activates the milestone.
Start typing the name of a button, link, or other detected action, and Uxify will show matching suggestions from your website.
For example, Uxify may automatically suggest buttons such as:
ADD TO BAGPROTECTED CHECKOUTHOME FRAGRANCEOther buttons or links detected on your website
Simply select the relevant suggestion.
You can also enter your own value when the action you want isn't shown in the suggestions.
This makes it easy to create a milestone without having to know the technical details of the element you're tracking.
Advanced settings
For more precise control over when a milestone is triggered, open Advanced.
Advanced settings allow you to define the exact type of trigger and, when necessary, specify where and how that trigger should occur.
Trigger type
You can choose from different trigger types depending on what you want to track:
Click - Trigger the milestone when a specific element is clicked.
Page visit - Trigger the milestone when a specific page is visited.
Ad click - Trigger the milestone when an advertisement is clicked.
Choose the trigger that best matches the action you're trying to measure.
URL
You can optionally specify a full or partial URL where the trigger should occur.
For example:
example.com/cart
Partial URLs and wildcards are supported, which gives you flexibility when the same interaction appears across multiple pages.
Use the URL field when you want to make sure the milestone only activates on a specific page or group of pages.
CSS selector
For click-based triggers, you can optionally specify a CSS selector to identify the exact element that should activate the milestone.
For example:
product-page
Use a valid CSS selector that uniquely identifies the element you're interested in.
This is particularly useful when:
Multiple buttons have the same name
The same element appears in different locations
You need to track a specific component
The button text isn't enough to uniquely identify the action
You can combine the URL and CSS selector using AND conditions to make the trigger more specific.
For example:
URL: /product/*
AND
CSS selector: .add-to-cart
This ensures the milestone is triggered only when the specified element is clicked on the relevant page.
Automatic detection vs. manual milestones
You don't need to manually create every milestone.
Uxify automatically detects important pages and interactions and can surface additional opportunities through Suggested by Uxify AI.
Manual milestones are useful when you want to:
Track a very specific interaction
Define a custom page visit
Track an action that hasn't been suggested automatically
Use a specific CSS selector
Control exactly when a milestone is triggered
This gives you a combination of automatic discovery and manual control.
Tips for creating useful milestones
When creating your own milestones, try to focus on actions that represent meaningful steps in the customer journey.
Good milestones are usually:
Easy to understand
Relevant to conversion
Specific enough to provide useful insights
Consistent with how you think about your customer journey
Avoid creating milestones for every small interaction on your website. The goal isn't to track everything - it's to identify the steps that help you understand how visitors move toward conversion.
And don't forget to check Suggested by Uxify AI. Some of the most useful funnel steps may be ones you wouldn't have thought to define yourself.
In short
Milestones are the building blocks of your Funnels.
You can:
Review automatically detected milestones
Add milestones suggested by Uxify AI
Create milestones manually
Categorize them as Regular, Microconversion, Preconversion, or Conversion
Define simple activation conditions
Use Advanced settings for precise triggers
Track clicks, page visits, and ad clicks
Use URLs and CSS selectors when you need more control
Once your milestones are in place, head over to Journeys to see how visitors actually move between them and where your biggest opportunities are.
