Meet Truetap

Learn how Truetap catches near-miss taps on small buttons and hands them to the button the visitor was aiming for, so the tap works the first time and shoppers keep moving toward checkout.

Written by Vasil Dachev

Meet Truetap, an AI Agent in Uxify’s Agent Catalog that turns missed taps into clicks. When a visitor taps or clicks just outside a button, the tap normally does nothing. Truetap catches that tap and passes it to the closest button, so the action the visitor intended happens on the first try.

Truetap is powered by Uxify’s AI engine together with real-user click data from Reality. It learns which buttons your visitors actually use, covers them automatically, and reports how many taps it has saved and how many visitors it has helped.

Unlike a redesign or a UX audit, Truetap works as an autonomous agent. Once activated, it learns from your traffic, decides which buttons to cover, saves missed taps, reports its results, and can be customized through natural-language instructions.

How Truetap works

Truetap focuses on one small but costly moment: a tap that lands close to a button but not on it.

On a phone, small targets and thumbs make near misses very common. When a tap misses, nothing happens. The shopper taps again, zooms in, or gives up, and to them the button seems broken.

Truetap handles this in four steps:

  1. A visitor taps. On a phone or with a mouse, the tap lands just outside a button. It is close, but it isn’t on anything.

  2. The tap would do nothing. Without Truetap, the tap is lost.

  3. Truetap passes it on. The agent hands the tap to the closest button, the one the visitor was reaching for.

  4. It just works. The size gets selected or the item goes into the cart, and the visitor never notices they missed.

Truetap only steps in when a tap would have done nothing. A tap that lands on a button, a link, or any other interactive element works exactly as before, so Truetap never triggers something the visitor didn’t mean to tap.

Truetap does not draw anything on your site. It adds no overlays, doesn’t enlarge buttons, and doesn’t change your layout. Your pages look exactly as you built them.

How Truetap decides which buttons to cover

Truetap doesn’t guess. During every checkin, it uses Reality to find the buttons your visitors clicked over the past 7 days, separately for desktop and mobile. It then covers the buttons that matter most, such as Add to cart, checkout, and your most popular calls to action.

Coverage grows and adjusts over time. As new buttons show up in your click data, Truetap extends coverage to them. Buttons that no longer appear in the data are trimmed from the setup. Every checkin, the agent learns from the previous day and applies it to the next, so results compound.

Where Truetap helps most

Near misses cluster on the smallest targets, and in an online store those are often the buttons closest to the sale:

  • Close (×) buttons on pop-ups, usually the smallest button on the screen

  • Size and color options, small chips packed side by side

  • Quantity + and − buttons, tiny and right next to each other

  • Add to cart, often tapped in a hurry and hit at the edge

Truetap works on mobile and desktop. Mobile is where it has the most impact.

Activating Truetap

Truetap is available as part of Uxify’s Agent Catalog.

After installing the Uxify snippet:

  • Open the Agents section in your Uxify dashboard.

  • Select Truetap.

  • Review or customize the agent’s instructions.

  • Activate the agent.

Once enabled, Truetap starts learning from your click data and saving missed taps on the buttons it covers.

You don’t need to write code, redesign anything, or set up rules.

Dashboards in Truetap

The Truetap page shows the agent’s activity in three sections:

  • Results

  • Checkins

  • Instructions

Together they show how many taps Truetap has saved, what it has changed, and how it is configured.

Results

The Results tab summarizes Truetap’s impact on your website.

At the top of the page you’ll find three key metrics:

Taps saved

The number of missed taps Truetap passed to the intended button during the selected period. Each saved tap is one that would otherwise have done nothing.

Visitors helped

The number of unique visitors who had at least one tap saved. Comparing this with taps saved shows whether near misses are spread across many visitors or concentrated among visitors who miss repeatedly.

Most saved

The button that received the most saved taps. This is the element your visitors miss most often, which makes it a strong candidate for a closer look in your next design review.

The chart below shows taps saved over time, along with the daily average. Use the date range selector to change the period.

The What a saved tap is panel next to the chart gives a quick visual explanation of how Truetap works.

Checkins

The Checkins tab is Truetap’s activity timeline. Truetap checks in once a day.

Each checkin records what the agent did during that run, so you can see exactly how its coverage has changed. Expand a checkin to see the steps it completed (Learning, Optimization, and Reporting).

Typical entries include:

  • Coverage extended to new buttons, such as quantity buttons or a mobile header menu

  • Coverage trimmed to buttons seen in recent click data

  • Coverage complete, with no changes needed during the run

  • Summaries of taps saved

For example, Truetap may report:

Truetap saved 156 missed taps, quantity buttons added.

Each checkin includes a timestamp, giving you a full history of the agent’s activity.

Instructions

Like every Uxify AI Agent, Truetap can be customized.

The Instructions tab defines how Truetap behaves. Instead of working through multiple settings, you adjust the agent with natural-language instructions. To change them, click Edit instructions.

Next to the instructions, the Activity since deployment panel shows how many checkins the agent has completed and when the last one ran.

Changes take effect automatically, with no extra implementation needed.

Truetap’s instructions are organized into three steps:

Learning

Learning instructions define where Truetap gets its data and how far back it looks.

Typical instructions include:

  • Use Reality to find the buttons clicked by visitors over the past 7 days.

  • Analyze desktop and mobile separately.

Optimization

Optimization instructions define which buttons Truetap covers and what it should leave alone.

Typical instructions include:

  • Save missed taps and clicks on buttons that handle adding to cart.

  • Cover checkout buttons.

  • Cover popular call-to-action buttons.

  • Do not optimize taps that aren’t near a button.

  • Do not optimize buttons that don’t appear in the click data.

These instructions keep Truetap focused on the buttons that matter most, so it only steps in where it helps.

Reporting

Reporting instructions control what Truetap tells you about its work and when.

Typical instructions include:

  • Send me an email on the 1st of every month with the most significant improvements from the previous month.

  • Include taps saved and visitors helped in reports.

  • Report when coverage is extended to new buttons.

  • Skip reports when there is no activity.

As Uxify’s Agent platform evolves, more instructions and workflows can be added to further customize Truetap.

Why Truetap matters

To a shopper, a missed tap feels like a broken button. Many never try again, especially on Add to cart, and the order is lost over a few pixels.

The usual fix is to redesign with bigger buttons, more spacing, and new layouts. Truetap fixes the problem without touching your design. It learns which buttons your visitors actually use, makes sure taps on them land, and keeps adjusting as your traffic changes.

The result is a lightweight, fully automatic agent that turns near misses into working taps and shows you exactly how many taps it saves and how many visitors it helps.
