Meet Carter

Learn how Carter helps recover abandoned carts by detecting exit intent, triggering the browser's native confirmation prompt, and turning more leaving shoppers into completed checkouts.

Written by Vasil Dachev

Meet Carter is an AI Agent within Uxify's Agent Catalog that helps recover abandoned carts by stopping shoppers at the exact moment they are about to leave. Instead of relying on traditional exit-intent pop-ups, the agent triggers the browser's native confirmation message, encouraging shoppers to stay and complete their purchase.

Powered by Uxify's AI engine together with the browser's native exit confirmation capabilities, Carter continuously watches for exit intent, intervenes only when necessary, and reports exactly how many carts and how much revenue it has recovered.

Unlike traditional cart recovery tools, Carter operates as an autonomous agent. Once activated, it automatically monitors visitor behavior, detects potential cart abandonment, intervenes at the optimal moment, reports its results, and can be customized through natural-language instructions.

How Carter works?

Carter focuses on the final moments before a shopper leaves your website.

Once activated, the agent continuously monitors visitor behavior to identify when someone is about to abandon their session or leave with products still in their cart.

To accomplish this, Carter combines several signals:

  • Exit intent detection – recognizing when visitors attempt to close the tab or navigate away.

  • Cart awareness – identifying visitors who have items waiting in their cart.

  • Browser capabilities – triggering the browser's native confirmation message at the precise moment a visitor attempts to leave.

  • Agent intelligence – determining when intervention is appropriate based on your configuration.

Because Carter only activates during genuine exit attempts, it avoids interrupting the normal shopping experience while maximizing opportunities to recover abandoned carts.

Unlike traditional exit-intent pop-ups, Carter does not inject overlays or additional page elements. It relies on the browser's native confirmation prompt, making it lightweight, highly visible, and fully compatible with your existing marketing tools.

Activating Carter

Carter is available as part of Uxify's Agent Catalog.

After installing the Uxify snippet:

  • Open the Agents section inside your Uxify dashboard.

  • Select Carter.

  • Review or customize the agent's instructions.

  • Activate the agent.

Once enabled, Carter immediately begins monitoring exit intent across your selected pages and starts recovering eligible abandoned carts automatically.

No additional implementation or rule configuration is required.

Dashboards in Carter

The Carter page provides complete visibility into the agent's activity through three sections:

  • Results

  • Checkins

  • Instructions

Together these views show how many carts Carter has recovered, what actions it has performed, and how it has been configured.

Results

The Results tab summarizes Carter's overall impact on your website.

At the top of the page you'll find four key recovery metrics:

Incremental revenue

Shows the estimated additional revenue generated from shoppers who stayed and completed their purchase after Carter intervened.

This metric represents the direct business value created by Carter over the selected time period.

Carts saved

Displays the number of shopping carts that Carter successfully recovered.

A saved cart represents a shopper who was about to leave but remained on the website and continued their checkout journey.

Save attempts

Shows how many times Carter intercepted an exit attempt by displaying the browser's native confirmation message.

Not every attempt results in a recovered cart, but every attempt represents a potential abandonment that Carter successfully interrupted.

The chart below visualizes save attempts over time, allowing you to understand when Carter has been most active.

Recent saves

This tab shows the individual carts Carter saved - when, how much, and where. Useful for verifying that the dashboard totals match reality, spotting patterns across specific products or pages, or investigating a particular session.

Checkins

The Checkins tab acts as Carter's activity timeline.

Each check-in records important events performed by the agent, providing complete transparency into its behavior.

Typical entries include:

  • Agent activation

  • Agent paused or resumed

  • Daily recovery summaries

  • Recovery milestones

  • Revenue milestones

For example, Carter may report:

Carter recovered 18 carts and generated $1,240 in incremental revenue today.

Each check-in includes a timestamp together with the actions completed during that execution, providing a complete history of the agent's activity.

Instructions

Like every Uxify AI Agent, Carter can be customized.

The Instructions tab defines how Carter behaves. Rather than configuring rules through multiple settings, you can adjust the agent using natural-language instructions that control its activation, operation, and reporting.

Changes take effect automatically without requiring any additional implementation.

Typical instructions include:

Activation

Activation instructions determine when Carter should start running and how it maintains its own availability.

Typical instructions include:

  • Activate Carter immediately after deployment.

  • Verify the agent is active during every check-in.

  • Automatically reactivate the agent if it becomes disabled.

  • Send a confirmation email after successful activation.

Operation

Operation instructions define how Carter identifies shoppers who are about to abandon their purchase and when it should intervene.

Typical instructions include:

  • Detect visitors showing strong purchase intent.

  • Trigger the browser's native confirmation dialog only during genuine exit attempts.

  • Activate only for visitors with items in their cart.

  • Avoid triggering during accidental tab switches or navigation.

  • Limit prompts to one intervention per session.

These instructions help ensure Carter remains effective without disrupting the shopping experience.

Reporting

Reporting instructions control what Carter communicates after recovering shoppers.

Typical instructions include:

  • Notify me when Carter saves its first cart.

  • Send daily or weekly recovery summaries.

  • Include incremental revenue, carts saved, and save attempts in reports.

  • Report changes made to the agent's behavior.

  • Skip reports when there is no activity.

As Uxify's Agent platform evolves, additional instructions and workflows can be added to further customize Carter's behavior.

Why Carter matters?

Cart abandonment is one of the largest sources of lost ecommerce revenue.

Rather than interrupting shoppers throughout their browsing journey, Carter waits until the exact moment they decide to leave. By using the browser's native confirmation message instead of traditional pop-ups, it captures attention without slowing down your website or conflicting with your existing marketing tools.

The result is a lightweight, fully automatic cart recovery agent that helps convert abandoning shoppers into completed checkouts while providing complete visibility into the revenue it recovers every day.
